A Genuinely Authentic Region in South Tyrol

The mountains around the Mühlwalder Valley, Tauferer Valley and Ahrntal Valley offer diverse activities for families and nature lovers: hiking and skiing at Speikboden and Klausberg, walks around the Neves reservoir, as well as numerous other experiences such as summer toboggan run, zipline, petting zoo, via ferrata and sledding fun.

Hiking in the Mühlwalder Valley – alpine pastures, huts and breathtaking views.

The Weizgruberalm, located at 2,032 m, can be reached via a well-marked hiking trail starting directly from Mühlwald or by a wider forest road. The mountain hut offers typical South Tyrolean dishes, a panoramic view over the Mühlwalder Valley, and a family-friendly toboggan run during winter.

The Edelrauthütte, situated at 2,545 m on the Eisbruggjoch pass, is an ideal starting point for high-alpine tours to surrounding peaks such as the Hochfeiler (3,510 m) and Hoher Weißzint (3,371 m). From here, you can enjoy spectacular views of the glaciers of the Zillertal Alps.

The Chemnitzer Hütte, also known as Nevesjoch hut, is located at 2,419 m above the Neves Reservoir, at the pass connecting Lappach with Weißenbach. It serves as the starting point for mountain hikes such as the Neveser Höhenrunde and provides dining and accommodation during the summer season.

The idyllic Nevesalm (1,860 m), situated by the Neves reservoir, is famous for its alpine cheese production. During a relaxing break, you can enjoy homemade specialties like cheese platters and fresh alpine butter, with views of the surrounding peaks exceeding 3,000 metres.

Located only about a 15-minute walk from the parking area at the Neves reservoir is the Untermaureralm (1,862 m). Here you can enjoy homemade dishes such as speck dumplings, Kaiserschmarrn, and fresh pastries. It is ideal for a short, relaxed hike or a refreshment stop after more demanding tours.

The Mair am Tinkhof Alm (1,760 m), situated on the natural Zösenberg plateau, is easily accessible even with a stroller, making it ideal for families. On its sunny terrace, you can savour fresh dairy products directly from the mountain hut, traditional speck platters, and homemade apple strudel.

The Bergmeisteralm (1,720 m) can be reached directly by car and is an excellent starting point for various hikes. The hosts serve typical South Tyrolean dishes and homemade cakes.

The hike to Obermairalm, located at around 2,000 m altitude, is relatively long and recommended for experienced hikers. Close to the picturesque Wengsee Lake, it provides a rewarding destination for nature lovers.

The Ploner Alm is located at approximately 1,800 m in the Mühlwalder Valley and is a peaceful hiking destination with traditional catering. On its sunny terrace, you can enjoy hearty snacks with South Tyrolean specialities while relaxing in the mountain landscape.

A well-maintained forest trail leads you in about one hour to the impressive Raschtl Waterfall, cascading down several steps from about 40 metres in height, providing a refreshing place for a break amidst nature. The path is family-friendly and suitable even for less experienced hikers.
